Pope Francis against the “Pelagianism” of “restorationism”: this time, it’s official. Posted by Augustinus at 7/28/2013 rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/2013/07/pope-francis-against-pelagianism-of.html When the Pope’s private remarks to the presiding board of the Confederación Latinoamericana y Caribeña de Religiosos y Religiosas about the “pelagianism” of “restorationist” groups were first reported here on Rorate and some other blogs and websites, one of the reactions, especially from some of those who adhere to the new orthodoxy that little or nothing has changed since March 13 of this year, was that the remarks were probably fabricated in the imagination of the CLAR presiding board members. Today, after the Mass at Copacobana, Pope Francis gave a speech to the leadership of the Council of Bishops’ Conferences of Latin America and the Caribbean or CELAM. In the course of his speech he spoke of three temptations against “missionary discipleship”, one of which is that of “making the Gospel message an ideology”. He then mentions four ways by which the Gospel message is made an ideology, one of which is — “The Pelagian solution”. It may be of interest to our readers, especially those conversant with the history of the debates over the Council Documents, that the only passage from Vatican Council II that is cited here is the opening sentence of Gaudium et Spes, a passage that Pope Francis describes in this address as “the basis (of the Church’s) dialogue with the contemporary world”. It cannot be denied that some passages in this speech will also make liberals uncomfortable. Our concern here, in this Traditional Catholic blog, is on what might adversely impact Traditional Catholicism, especially in Latin America where it is far more beleaguered and persecuted than in many other parts of the Catholic Church. From the Vatican Radio translation of the full text of the prepared address: Pope Francis: address to CELAM leadership. There were many off-the-cuff remarks which Radio Vaticana has promised to also post soon. (He did pronounce the passage on Pelagianism as already prepared, with the addition of exageradas before a la “seguridad” doctrinal o disciplinaria.) Some temptations against missionary discipleship The decision for missionary discipleship will encounter temptation. It is important to know where the evil spirit is afoot in order to aid our discernment. It is not a matter of chasing after demons, but simply one of clear-sightedness and evangelical astuteness. I will mention only a few attitudes which are evidence of a Church which is “tempted”. It has to do with recognizing certain contemporary proposals which can parody the process of missionary discipleship and hold back, even bring to a halt, the process of Pastoral Conversion. 1. Making the Gospel message an ideology. This is a temptation which has been present in the Church from the beginning: the attempt to interpret the Gospel apart from the Gospel itself and apart from the Church. An example: Aparecida, at one particular moment, felt this temptation. It employed, and rightly so, the method of “see, judge and act” (cf. No. 19). The temptation, though, was Continue Reading

Martyrology-July 30th Roman Martyrology-July 30th- on this date in various years- At Rome, in the reign of Decius, the holy Persian martyrs Abdon and Sennen, who were bound with chains, brought to Rome, scourged with leaded whips for the faith of Christ, and then put to the sword. At Assisi in Umbria, St. Rufinus, martyr. At Tuberbum Lucernarium in Africa, the holy virgins and martyrs Maxima, Donatilla, and Secunda. The first two, in the persecution of Valerian and Gallienus, were forced to drink vinegar and gall, then scourged most severely , stretched on the rack, burned on the gridiron, rubbed over with lime, and afterwards exposed to the beasts with the virgin Secunda, twelve years old. But being untouched by them, they were finally beheaded. At Caesarea in Cappadocia, St. Julitta, martyr. As she sought through the courts the restitution of goods seized by a man of influence, the latter objected that, being a Christian, her cause could not be pleaded. The judge commanded her to offer sacrifice to the idols, that she might be heard. She refused with great constancy, and being thrown into the fire, yielded her soul unto God. Her body remained uninjured by the flames. St. Basil the Great has proclaimed her praise in an excellent eulogy. At Auxerre, St. Ursus, bishop and confessor. And elsewhere in divers places, many other holy martyrs, confessors, and holy virgins. R. Thanks be to God.

Interfaith outreach in Italy: Muslims loot church, urinate and defecate on altar Posted by Deacon Robert on July 29, 2013 www.jihadwatch.org/2013/07/interfaith-outreach-in-italy-muslims-loot-church-urinate-and-defecate-on-altar.html How’s that “dialogue” working for you, Bishop? “Moroccans defecate on an altar in Italy,” from GalliaWatch, July 27: Here’s a bit of news from the city of Serravalle a Po, in the province of Mantua in Lombardy, Italy. Novopress reports: It’s another tough blow for the parish. The district of Libiola belongs to the city of Serravalle a Po. It was severely hit by the earthquake in May 2012 and the baroque church is still closed for repairs. You will recall that the quake that ravaged northeast Italy also led to an explosion of problems with the Muslim immigrants living close-by. A dish with bolognese sauce, served inadvertently to a young Muslim girl in a refugee camp, had set off a veritable riot. In Libiola, life was getting back to normal. Last Thursday, the priest and the two nuns in charge of the youth club had taken the children for a day trip to the mountains. Four young Moroccans (one from the neighborhood, the others from near-by) took advantage and broke into the presbytery. They forced open the door of the sister superior’s room and stole whatever money they could find, namely the children’s dues and profits from a risotto dinner recently organized by the parents: 80 euros in all. The Maghrebins then, in the words of the Gazetta di Mantova, “wanted to leave behind a sign”. They cut through a panel of the plastic tent that has been serving as a provisional church since the earthquake. They urinated and defecated on the altar. A neighbor saw them flee and recognized the one who lives in the neighborhood. The carabinieri were able to identify the others. The priest, Eugenio Ferrari, finally decided to lodge a complaint. “If they had come to steal money because they were hungry,” he explained, “I never would have complained: I would have forgiven them. But what they did in the church is an act that cannot be ignored. It is unspeakable.” “I am sorry,” added the priest, “because it appears that this was done by four young Moroccans. They showed their contempt for our religion. But if I did the same thing in a mosque, they would slit my throat, yes or no?” Answer: yes….

Colorado: Self-proclaimed “Islamist jihadist” threatens to murder Mormons and Catholics Posted by Deacon Robert on July 29, 2013 www.jihadwatch.org/2013/07/colorado-self-proclaimed-islamist-jihadist-threatens-to-murder-mormons-and-catholics.html This man’s apparent references to the Book of Revelation (“REV 14-7″) and the Hebrew name for God suggest that he is not a real Islamic jihadist, but someone who is impressed by them. As Osama bin Laden said, people will back the strong horse. This could be a manifestation of that: a violent-minded psychotic attracted by the specter of religiously-motivated violence. “Threats from self-proclaimed ‘Islamist jihadist’ prompt Fort Collins police to caution religious organizations,” by Madeline Novey for Coloradoan.com, July 28: Fort Collins police have asked local religious organizations to keep an eye out for suspicious behavior after a self-proclaimed “Islamist jihadist” threatened Mormons and Catholics “would be destroyed” in the next two weeks, a memo sent by authorities said. The man hadn’t been seen in the Fort Collins area as of Sunday, and there is no immediate danger to the public, Fort Collins Police Services Sgt. Mike West told the Coloradoan. No further details, including the man’s identity, were immediately available. Threats were made in general regard to the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and Catholic Church; no local organizations were specifically referenced in the FCPS memo. Rev. Steven Voss said the Archdiocese of Denver shared with him on Friday the Fort Collins Police Services memo and reading its words of caution made his “blood run cold.” But between Sunday Masses at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, 300 W. Mountain Ave., Voss said he’s “pretty confident” he and his parishioners won’t have an interaction with the man he was told was “nonviolent.” To give worshipers a sense of peace, he asked an FCPS officer to keep watch during weekend services. When he read the police bulletin during Mass Saturday, an “audible gasp” escaped those seated in the pews. A day later, “after the initial, kind of having your breath taken away moment,” there was a greater sense of calm, he believes was due in part to police presence. Spokespeople with the Church of Latter Day Saints in Salt Lake City, Utah, weren’t available for comment Sunday, nor could the Coloradoan immediately reach anyone with a local LDS church. Described as a white man in his early 30s, the man was contacted by police Tuesday in Steamboat Springs when an officer reportedly saw him attempting to shoot a video while driving. Wearing a T-shirt wrapped around his head, and a bandana and sunglasses over his face, the man allegedly told police everyone would know who he was in the next two weeks but didn’t elaborate, Steamboat Springs Police Department Sgt. Jeff Wilson said. The man who police say claimed he was the Archangel Michael was spotted leaving Rocky Mountain National Park Thursday, the FCPS memo to religious organizations said. A vehicle associated with the man is a white Honda coupe on which someone spray-painted “F*** DHS” (Department of Homeland Security) on the trunk, “Rev 14-7” on its side and “YHVH” Continue Reading

rorate-caeli.blogspot.com/2013/07/important-pope-francis-severely.html IMPORTANT: Pope Francis severely restricts the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate from celebrating the Traditional Latin Mass, imposes the Novus Ordo on all their priests UPDATE: FULL TEXT OF THE DECREE that abrogates Summorum for the FFI Rorate note: A clear attempt to minimize the importance of this decree is taking place here and there in the blogosphere, as expected. We are being told that this isn’t really something to worry about; that this is just a particular situation, limited to a particular religious institution, and has nothing to do with how Pope Francis views Summorum. Against these manifestations of the spirit of denial that we have come to know so well since February 28 of this year, we raise the following points. 1) First, the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate are not just a small religious Order or congregation occupying a tiny niche of the Traditional Catholic world; with more than 130 priests, they are the second largest canonically-regular religious congregation or society among those that primarily or de facto exclusively offer the Traditional Latin Mass. (The FSSP is the largest.) The family of female monasteries and convents under the spiritual care of the FFI have no other parallel in the Traditional Catholic world outside the SSPX. Anything that restricts the ability of the FFI to offer the Traditional Latin Mass will of necessity be deeply felt by the Traditional Catholic world. 2) One justification now being raised is that the FFI’s application of Summorum Pontificum had caused discord in many communities and that the Traditional Latin Mass was “imposed” brutally on priests who did not want it. On the contrary, we in Rorate, who have been closely observing the FFI since 2008, can affirm that the opposite is the case: Summorum was applied in a very gradual manner by the FFI, the Novus Ordo was never forbidden in their houses and sanctuaries, and in many parts of the world the FFI continued to offer the Novus Ordo predominantly. It ought to be noted as well that the FFI, in their promotion of the “Forma Extraordinaria”, have been remarkably free of polemics and public attacks on the Novus Ordo. 3) Yet another justification now being used is that this action is acceptable because the FFI were not founded with the TLM as an essential part of their charism. This excuse is incomprehensible as it completely ignores the rights given by Summorum Pontificum to religious priests. Furthermore, if the dissatisfaction of a few is enough to get a whole religious congregation or Order restricted from making use of Summorum Pontificum, this opens an easy way by which the opponents of the old Mass can eventually expel the TLM from all non-”Ecclesia Dei” institutes. 4) Lastly, and most importantly, the decree — by specifically restricting the Traditional Latin Mass — is a clear indication that it is seen as something problematic, something that must be excised from the life of the Franciscan Friars of the Immaculate. If this whole crisis Continue Reading

California Catholic school fires teacher after gay wedding

[The school knew of his premarital homosexual relation long before the "wedding"] California Catholic school fires teacher after gay wedding July 31, 2013 By Deacon Greg Kandra www.patheos.com/blogs/deaconsbench/2013/07/california-catholic-school-fires-teacher-after-gay-wedding/ A Rancho Cucamonga man who taught 17 years at a Catholic high school was fired from his job days after he married his gay partner in a San Bernardino civil ceremony. While school representatives declined comment on the matter, an attorney representing 45-year-old Ken Bencomo says he was fired because of the same-sex ceremony. “The reason given was that the marriage occurred and the school’s position was that it violated church teachings,” said Chatsworth attorney Patrick McGarrigle. Bencomo, 45, was head of the English department at St. Lucy’s Priory High School in Glendora, but also worked as a yearbook moderator and dance coach. Students say they were aware of Bencomo’s sexual orientation. “He never talked about his personal life to his students, but it’s something that students and faculty knew,” said former student, Abigail O’Brien, 19, of Upland. McGarrigle also said the school was aware long before he got married. “St. Lucy’s has known of Mr. Bencomo’s orientation for years,” he said. “Administrators had been introduced to his partner in the past, so the suggestion that Ken’s orientation is a surprise or that his lifestyle somehow violated doctrine is at odds with the school’s knowlege and what seemed to be acceptance of him until most recently.” In an online petition protesting Bencomo’s termination, supporters of the former teacher say a July 2 article in the Daily Bulletin prompted the school to dismiss him. Bencomo and his husband Christopher Persky, 32, of Rancho Cucamonga were one of the first gay couples to line up at the San Bernardino County Assessor-Recorder’s Office to get married July 1 following a Supreme Court decision allowing same-sex marriage. He appeared in photographs and video for the story. Sister Helen Dziuk, assistant principal at St. Lucy’s, declined comment and referred inquiries to the school’s attorney, Joseph Stark. St. Lucy’s officials later issued a written statement, saying the school plans to continue educating students “in the tradition of the Catholic faith.” “As a Benedictine school, St. Lucy’s is a community for those who wish to express Christian values in education and develop person and academic excellence,” the statement said.

Theologian Warns of Parallel Catholic Universes

Theologian Warns of Parallel Catholic Universes August 1, 2013 | By Matthew Archbold | Books by Catholic theologians you might find for sale at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D.C., are vastly different from those you might find for sale at a college bookstore or a Catholic Theological Society of America convention. That difference is indicative of a larger problem facing the Catholic Church in America, says David Cloutier, associate professor of theology at Mount St. Mary’s University, in a piece at Catholic Moral Theology. In fact, he says it’s an indication that there are currently “parallel Catholic universes” which do not intersect. While some lay Catholics do teach in seminaries and attend groups like the Academy of Catholic Theologians, these institutional settings feature many more clerics. Participants in these spheres, both in their training and their driving concerns, are far more oriented to the Church than to academic success and social influence. They increasingly have access to an alternative universe of publishers, diocesan and parish formation programs, and the like. One can browse through the bookstore at the Basilica of the Immaculate Conception in Washington DC and find the entire moral theology section dominated by authors and publishers completely different from (say) the tables at the annual CTSA convention. The peculiarity here goes beyond an aim at different audiences – increasingly, what exists are parallel Catholic universes which do not intersect. Cloutier writes that moral theologians have “virtually no ecclesiastical oversight or guidance” from the Church. He adds that while that independence can lead to innovative ideas, it also leads to problems. He points out that with the shift from cleric-led theology to lay-led theology, the subject is very rarely put into practice in any form anymore. “The radical decline in the sacrament of reconciliation has not been matched by the rise of alternative forms of practice, such as small discernment groups, spiritual direction, or even intentional and intensive social justicework,” he said. Theologians employed at colleges primarily deal with college students, said Cloutier, and that offers them a somewhat myopic view of Catholics. “On the one hand, the extended opportunity to engage in study and dialogue with a real variety of students, enhanced by the ‘enforcement power’ of grades, is something that pastors and religious educators might envy,” wrote Cloutier. “On the other hand, it must be kept in mind that most of the Catholic Church does not consist of 18-22 year olds.” Cloutier states that he believes moral theologians care about serving the Church, but believes the question facing them is “how does one do it?” Cloutier believes that Catholic theologians today must overcome the divisions which separate them or Catholicism may experience drastic losses similar to those experienced by mainline Protestantism. – See more at: www.cardinalnewmansociety.org/CatholicEducationDaily/DetailsPage/tabid/102/ArticleID/2417/Theologian-Warns-of-Parallel-Catholic-Universes.aspx#sthash.UxJeISMM.dpuf

Obama Administration’s Transgender Policy Could Endanger Catholic Schools, Colleges

[Seeing how they are conforming to the Obamandate, I don't think many "Catholic" educational institutions would object] Obama Administration’s Transgender Policy Could Endanger Catholic Schools, Colleges August 1, 2013 | By Matthew Archbold | A recent settlement between the U.S. Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights and a California school district should be setting off alarm bells, as Catholic colleges may be forced to accommodate transgender students in new ways or risk losing federal funding, according to Inside Higher Ed. In a joint announcement, the U.S. Departments of Justice and Education stated that California’s Arcadia School District violated Title IX because it prevented a female student who identified as male from entering male restrooms and locker rooms and participating in sex-specific activities. And although this is a decision about a high school, the ramifications will likely spread to all levels of higher education, which are required to comply with Title IX or risk losing federal funding. “It actually is groundbreaking,” Erin Buzevis, the law professor at Western New England School of Law who runs the Title IX Blog, reportedly told Inside Higher Ed. “By taking one such case, OCR signals its willingness to take similar cases in the future, and there’s no reason to think those cases wouldn’t also include college students.” The consequences of the ruling could reportedly require schools and colleges to allow young men who consider themselves women to use bathrooms and locker rooms of the opposite sex. It could also lead to “gender-inclusive housing,” which would be morally problematic for Catholic colleges. It would hardly be an anomaly for the federal government to force Catholic colleges to act against their values, as the Obama administration will soon require that Catholic colleges provide health coverage that includes abortifacients, contraceptives, and sterilization procedures. And just last year, the Education Department’s Office for Civil Rights ruled that Merrimack College in North Andover, Mass., was “not providing equal opportunity for women to participate in its intercollegiate athletics program” in compliance with Title IX regulations. It actually ordered them to form a girls’ ice hockey team. Duquesne University, Manhattan College in New York and St. Xavier University in Chicago have all recently struggled with the National Labor Relations Board’s interference in personnel matters, despite federal court rulings prohibiting such NLRB intrusion into religious education. – See more at: www.cardinalnewmansociety.org/CatholicEducationDaily/DetailsPage/tabid/102/ArticleID/2416/Obama-Administration%e2%80%99s-Transgender-Policy-Could-Endanger-Catholic-Schools-Colleges.aspx#sthash.6VxBgEt9.dpuf

Report: Alleged ‘Catholic’ Charities “Compromising with the Devil” Catholic agency execs linked to groups working against Catholic teaching Washington, August 1, 2013 – American Life League, the nation’s oldest Catholic prolife advocacy and education group, has released a shocking new ALL Report titled “Alledgedly ‘Catholic’ charities: Compromising with the Devil” (www.all.org/~dcurrier/docs/snyder.pdf). The report profiles two executives of Catholic agencies that are involved with individuals and organizations that work directly against Catholic teaching. “We found high level managers of charities using the Catholic name that are trustees, campaign managers, and even board members of organizations that actively undermine Catholic teaching,” said Michael Hichborn, director of ALL’s Defend the Faith and host of the video report. “It is not necessary for the Catholic Church to aid and abet the culture of death in order to help the poor. Such excuses are really just comprises with the devil.” Following Texas State Representative Wendy Davis’s recent filibuster against legislation that restricts abortion, the ALL Report discusses how she was able to do this because the executive director of the Catholic Campaign for Human Development helped her win office. The ALL Report also reveals new information about the president of Catholic Charities USA and his intimate involvement with an organization that promotes birth control and homosexual activism. ALL says the new report confirms the political adage that “personnel is policy.” The video report:

Petition to Support the Franciscans of the Immaculata Tancred 8/1/13 eponymousflower.blogspot.com/2013/08/petition-to-support-franciscans-of.html Edit: this just in which we found on Messa in Latino regarding the Franciscan Friars if the Immaculata. Here’s a slight google translation with some editing. You can go to the main site and send an e-mail using Corispondenza Roma. Thanks. Please let us know in the comments if you’ve signed it. Hopefully it will embolden others to do so. In support of the Franciscans of the Immaculate and the traditional Mass Dear friend, on July 11, the Congregation for Religious has “police” the institution of the Franciscans of the Immaculate, forcing them to abandon the traditional Mass, which they celebrate freely, according to a universal law of the Church, never repealed and confirmed by the motu proprio Summorum Pontificum of Pope Benedict XVI on 7 July 2007. In the canon 212 of the Code of Canon Law currently in force states that the faithful “…have the right, indeed at times the duty, in keeping with their knowledge, competence and position, to manifest to the sacred Pastors their views on matters which concern the good of the Church. They have the right also to make their views known to others of Christ’s faithful, but in doing so they must always respect the integrity of faith and morals, show due reverence to the Pastors and take into account both the common good and the dignity of individuals.” In the light of this canon, and what forces the sensus fidei of every baptized person, I feel obliged to send an open letter to His Eminence Cardinal João Braz de Aviz, Prefect of the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life. If you share my concerns, I thank you if you will join this initiative, addressing the message shown in the window below. Pressing the button below you will be able to send its message directly to the Prefect of the Congregation [in Italian] and, for information, to the Secretary of the Congregation, Archbishop José Rodriguez Carballo, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith, Archbishop Gerhard Ludwig Müller, Vice President of the Pontifical Commission Ecclesia Dei, Archbishop Augustine Di Noia and the appointed Commissioner, Father Fidenzio Volpi, OFM Cap. Do not forget to sign the letter with your name, with your e-mail address. Thank you to join this initiative, promoted for the greater good of the Church and of souls. With esteem and friendship, Roberto de Mattei Link to the petition which you can send already in Italian to the concerned Prelates in authority: www.corrispondenzaromana.it/in-sostegno-dei-francescani-dellimmacolata-e-della-messa-tradizionale/

Not Sinful, Michael?

Not sinful???….I beg to differ. These things you speak of are scandalous to the true faithful and to the mind-numbed folks who are “cool” with the travesties of the Novus Ordo culture they are re-enforcements of their twisted and unCatholic mindsets and behaviors. They are not reverent and we are REQUIRED to give God due reverence….therefore these acts ARE sinful….period…case closed. “Alter girls” are a “frog in the boiling water pot” scheme to make the faithful comfortable with future woman’s ordination. “Eucharistic terrorists” are a design to(quite successfully) get people to stress the need for more laity “participation” and downplay the sacred role of the priesthood. That IS sinful. Communion in the hand is a design to destroy belief in the Real Presence and that IS sinful. Singing protestant hymns risks the introduction of their heresies subtly into the minds of the faithful and that IS sinful.(for example the EXCELLENT Vortex you did on “Amazing Grace a couple of years ago.) The list could go on for ever potentially, but you’re a smart guy Michael and I think you can work with these. www.youtube.com/watch?v=1TTu66Dl71w (Preview) Michael, go back and listen to YOURSELF and retract this silly notion that what went on in Rio and other scandals are “not necessarily sinful”. Madagascar Archbishop denounces U.S. Bishops’ agency for pushing contraceptives in his diocese

Madagascar Archbishop denounces U.S. Bishops’ agency for pushing contraceptives in his diocese Patrick B. Craine MADAGASCAR, August 1, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – After Catholic Relief Services claimed it is “simply false” that they are distributing abortifacients and contraceptives in Madagascar, the pro-life group that made the charge has released quotes from an archbishop and clergy in the African country supporting their report. “Even in my own diocese! Without my knowledge,…they [CRS] were working on an artificial contraception project here,” said Archbishop Désiré Tsarahazana of Toamasina. As part of a month-long investigation in the fall of 2012, the Population Research Institute interviewed clergy in Madagascar, including two archbishops, who shared grave concerns about CRS’ work in the country. According to PRI, the bishops went public with them after they had held a private meeting with CRS’ president, Dr. Carolyn Woo, to no avail. They released the archbishops’ quotes Wednesday after CRS accused them and other pro-life groups on Tuesday of carrying out “unrelenting attacks” that “attempt to cause division in the Body of Christ” and are “harmful to the Church and to the pro-life cause.” In addition to complaining that CRS was involved in distributing abortifacients and contraceptives, the clergy expressed dismay that the majority of CRS’ employees in the country are not Catholic and that it does its work apart from the local church. “Maybe CRS’s participation in artificial-contraception-promotion programs is the reason that CRS mainly hires Protestants, who have no objection to family planning,” suggested Fr. Liva, SMM, Pastor at St. Thérèse Parish in Tamatave. “If CRS hired Catholics, some of those Catholics might object more strongly to CRS’s participation in that kind of thing.” “I’m not sure why, and I don’t want to exaggerate, but maybe 70% of its staff, or even more – is not Catholic,” said Archbishop Tsarahazana. “They’re not Catholic… I do understand that about CRS’s commitments to the U.S. Government…but, the question that remains is: Why are there so few Catholics on CRS’s staff…that I don’t understand so well.” Archbishop Odon Razanakolona of Antananarivo, Madagascar’s capital, expressed concern over the Catholic agency’s apparently tight relationship with the U.S. government. “One time, for ‘visibility’ purposes, they [CRS-Madagascar representatives] came in here [to my office] and asked me to put up this thing, this sign, with ‘USAID’ on it; to put it up behind my desk,” he said. “I threw them the hell out of my office: ‘Take your sign and your money out of here. I don’t need it. I’ve lived in my poverty; leave me in my poverty.’ ” “The money that CRS gets: a large part of it goes towards administration, while they make us work like dogs,” he added. “And then they collect two-thirds…and they give us crumbs. They are the ones who need to explain: Why do they receive such big salaries?” Archbishop Tsarahazana said he had been head of the Archdiocese for over three years before he even knew where CRS’ office was. “Just this year CRS held a very big Continue Reading

All traditionalists are radical Louie Verrecchio 8/1/13 www.harvestingthefruit.com/all-traditionalists-are-radical/ Labels can be unfair, unkind and unhelpful, but let’s be honest; they can also be useful and at times even truthful. This brings me to the label “Rad Trad,” a term that makes some, if not most, traditionalists bristle. Not I, however. Why not? Well, for one thing, consider the sources. Frequently, the people who use this phrase are among the deliriously duped (many being of the “conservative” bent); i.e., those confused sheep of the new-church flock whose single biggest mistake in their journey of faith thus far has been placing far too much stock in the ruminations of so-called leaders who ultimately served to mislead rather than to feed. Typically, when these people point fingers at “Rad Trads,” they’re simply parroting some figure of high regard, unworthy of esteem though such a person may be, and as such, many deserve our pity more so than our anger. Then there are the captains of new-church, the ones who are doing the misleading and disparaging traditionalists at every turn, many of whom do so while wearing collars and some even while walking with crosier. Of this group, a number presumably know damn well that they’re undermining the Faith, but many of these also belong to the ranks of the duped, who unbeknownst to themselves have been indoctrinated in the precepts of a movement that is but a shell of the mission of the Church as given by Christ. As horrifying as the thought may be, the simple truth is that many clerics, of whom I know a number, were so poorly formed in seminary and beyond that they simply don’t know what they don’t know and in ignorance simply pass along what they themselves have been given. As for culpability, I’ll let some One else worry about that. With all of that said, the primary reason the term “Rad Trad” no longer upsets my apple cart is because it is true, even if the poor fools who intend it as an insult don’t realize what they’re saying. All traditionalists are radical. The word “radical” comes from the Latin radix, or root. Even the Webster’s Dictionary defines the word as meaning, “of, relating to, or proceeding from a root; of or relating to the origin: fundamental.” This, my friends, is a fitting description of the modus of the traditionalists who draw their understanding of Catholic truth, neither from the imprecise discourse so prevalent in the conciliar text and beyond, nor from the confusion and innovations that such claptrap engenders, but from the Faith that comes to us from the Apostles as it was presented for our belief with clarity before all Hell broke loose in the Church. In other words, traditionalists are nurtured, by choice, on the life giving root of all Catholic truth as opposed to the silly straw of post conciliar Kool-Aid. To go just one step further, not only are all traditionalists radical, all Catholics are traditionalists, at least the ones Continue Reading
